What to Expect on Your First Visit With a Chiropractor at Our Well House
Trying something new, especially when it comes to your health, might be a little nerve-wracking. But all it takes is a little heads up so you can manage expectations and make sure you know what you’re getting into.
We want to ensure you feel knowledgeable, prepared, and comfortable before your first chiropractic visit with us, so here’s a rundown of what to know and what you can expect.
Meet Dr. Courtney
Dr. Courtney Kahla, the owner and founder of Our Well House. You can read about Dr. Courtney here.
What is their approach?
Dr. Courtney practices nervous system-centered chiropractic, which means she starts by getting to the root cause of the imbalance using a test called CLA INSiGHT (more on this to come).
Once she has assessed the nervous system, she’ll use the MC2 Technique for tonal and nerve-centered adjustments.
This method supports our belief that the body is self-healing and good health starts from within. Rather than creating a band-aid solution, we first examine why the imbalance exists and then aim to restore it.
How is it different from other chiropractic approaches?
Many people associate chiropractic with popping and cracking. While you might experience the odd one during our care for necessary adjustments, we don’t use quick, jerky movements or contort the body. Our nervous system-centered approach is tender, slow, and graceful.
There will never be any fast movements, twisting, cracking, or popping used on infants.
What happens during the first visit?
The initial consultation is a chance for us to get to know each other, review your needs, and any issues in your body, and answer your questions regarding nervous system-centered chiropractic.
Then, we’ll do a neuro spinal analysis and a nervous-system scan using CLA INSiGHT, which is a computer test that looks at how your nerves communicate with your muscles and organs and how your nervous system adapts to stress. This is done via a handheld device, which looks similar to a barcode scanner you’d see at a grocery store. It’s non-invasive, painless, and takes about 15 minutes to do. You can learn more about the CLA INSiGHT scan and what it involves on our chiropractic services page.
Once we've done the test and concluded no further ones are needed, we’ll make gentle nervous-system-centered adjustments. We’ll review your results together during your second visit and build your ongoing care plan from there.
Is there any equipment or machinery involved?
We use two types of instruments at Our Well House. The first is called an Activator: a spring-loaded, handheld tool used on the tissues near the affected joint. With an Activator, you’ll feel a small amount of pressure followed by a ‘tap’ sensation, similar to when a doctor checks for reflexes.
The other instrument is called an Integrator, which is like an Activator but is more accurate and specific. An Integrator torques and creates a thrusting movement, mimicking the classic Chiropractic Method of a hand adjustment at a speed of 1/10,000th of a second.
Sometimes, we will use our hands for light adjustments.
How long is the first visit?
The first visit for adults (including prenatal) and pediatric care is 45 minutes. If you are visiting us from out of town (more than 1 hour away from Frisco), we offer an “Out-of-town First Visit” that costs $500. It is a 1-hour long session for people who don’t live close and cannot commit to consistent chiropractic care.
Who are the treatments for, and how do they differ?
While Dr. Courtney specializes in prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric chiropractic care, all types of clients are welcome at Our Well House! We care about the well-being of families and feel they function at their best when they are taking care of their health in a holistic way.

How should I dress?
When you enter Our Well House, we ask you to leave your shoes at the door. If you worry your feet will get cold, then rock your best pair of socks! You’re also welcome to be barefoot (most of the staff will be, too). Otherwise, be sure to dress in loose-fitting clothing that allows your body to move freely and comfortably. We will ask you to undress your top half for the CLA INSiGHT scan and will provide you with a gown to wear.
We also ask that you not wear perfume, cologne, or scented lotion. We do not implement a mask policy, and our team will not be wearing one either.
What kind of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, credit cards, and debit cards (including HSA and Flex Spending cards). We do not provide diagnostic codes or superbills for insurance reimbursement. However, we are happy to provide an itemized receipt for your records.
What if I need to cancel?
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy for all Chiropractic appointments. If you need to cancel your First Visit prior to the 24-hour cancellation period, you may cancel through the Jane app (our online scheduling portal) and will not be charged. If you are within the 24-hour cancellation policy, we ask that you please text us at 469-663-4114 to cancel your appointment and you will be charged your deposit in full. Please also note there is a non-refundable $150 deposit due upon booking.
If you still have questions that we haven’t answered in this guide before your visit, please don’t hesitate to contact us via text at 469-663-4114. We look forward to serving you!
